Work Plan:
• Form work groups to review and revise CTE
Model Curriculum Foundation and Pathways
Standards
– Crosswalk with Career Clusters Knowledge
& Skills and pathways for reference
– Identify STEM content integration
– Identify “Green” content integration
– Consider logistics & cosmetology
placement
CA CTE Model Curriculum

State Superintendent
of Public Instruction
Work plan (cont’d)
– Align foundation standards with CCSS
enhancement
– Consider adding, revising, deleting
pathways
– Identify or build CCSS pathway applications
– Revise MCS as needed to reflect review
results
– Update Framework to reflect MCS revisions
– Offer professional development
CCSS & CTE Model Curriculum
Standards Alignment
TOM TORLAKSON
State Superintendent
of Public Instruction
Considerations:
– ELA; more than individual
presentations, emphasize teams,
groups, pairs
– ELA & Math; demonstrate use of
technology
– All subjects; use similar verbs
whenever possible
Literacy in Science & Technical
Subjects: CTE Applications
TOM TORLAKSON
State Superintendent
of Public Instruction
*
*
Follow precisely a complex multistep procedure
when carrying out experiments, taking
measurements, or performing technical tasks. .
.(11-12.RSTS.3)
CTE Application: Therapeutic Services
Use the appropriate evaluation tools to assess
patients and clients (HS & MT E5.1)
1.
2.
Place stethoscope properly over brachial artery: place
cuff 1 inch above stethoscope; inflate cuff to 170 mm;
slowly deflate cuff (2-3 mm/sec) while listening for first
audible beat; accurately note number of that beat;
continue slow deflation until beat disappears; accurately
note number of last beat.
Record blood pressure accurately on chart, graph and
report blood pressure outside of normal limits.

of Public Instruction
*
*
Integrate & evaluate multiple sources of
information. . .in order to address a question or
solve a problem (11-12.RSTS.7)
CTE Application: Legal and Government
Services
Students understand how to formulate plans and
policies to meet social, economic, and physical needs
(PS B4.0)
1.
2.
Understand specialized investigative techniques,
devices, and equipment to enhance investigation
regarding compliance with laws and regulations.
Understand important ways in which information is
collected, analyzed, organized, and disseminated to
realize specific objectives.
Mathematics-High School:

*
Making Inferences and Justifying Conclusions
Decide if a specific model is consistent with results
from a given data-generating process, e.g., using
simulation (HS S-IC.2)
*
CTE Application: Collision Repair & Refinishing
Students understand and apply measurement
systems and mathematical functions necessary to
perform required fabrication, maintenance, and
operation procedures (T B3.0)
1.
2.
Understand industry standard measurement scales,
devices, and systems used to perform design,
fabrication, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair
procedures.
Use mathematical functions associated with collision
(estimating), repair, and refinishing.
Mathematics-High School:
CTE Applications
TOM TORLAKSON
State Superintendent

selection principles, including the structure and role
of DNA (A & NR D5.0)
1.
2.
3.
