• Dodge ball will be played within the volleyball court lines.
• There are baselines on either end, throwlines, and a
midline as shown in the diagram below.
• 5 balls will be used to play.

The object of the game is to eliminate players on
the opposing team by getting them “out.” This
can be done by:
◦ Hitting an OPPONENT with a LIVE thrown ball.
◦ Catching a LIVE ball thrown by an OPPONENT. This also
allows one player on the catcher’s team to come back
into play.
◦ Stepping on or over the throw-line while throwing a ball.
◦ Stepping over or on the mid-line at any time.
◦ Stepping on or over the baseline/sideline.
◦ Violating the 7 second rule. (Discussed later)
◦ Unsporting conduct.



Players must not leave the court.
Players must be on their side of the midline.
Balls will be retrieved by officials and set on
the baseline of the team who did not throw
the ball out of bounds.



Players on both teams start behind their
baselines.
Once the start signal has been shown, teams
may approach the midline to get the balls.
Balls may not be thrown between the
throwline and the midline.




Games will be 3 minutes long at a maximum.
After 3 minutes, if no team has won, the team
with the most number of players wins the
match.
If the same number of players exists on both
sides after 3 minutes, a 1 minute sudden
death will be played, in which there can be no
catching of the ball.
If still tied after sudden death, there will be a
coin flip. (Variable to change)

A LIVE ball is one that has NOT:
◦

Hit the ground after being thrown
Hit a player already
Hit another ball (In hand or on ground)
Been thrown from on or over the throwline
Been thrown from out of bounds


The first player to get “Out” on a team is also
the first player to get back in if a ball is
caught on their own team. The second player
is second, etc.
Hitting an opponent anywhere is fair game.
(The balls aren’t that hard)

The 7 second rule:
◦ If a player has clear possession of a dodge ball for
more than 7 seconds. That player will receive a
warning. Two warnings against the same player,
and that player will be “Out.”




This is an FCA sponsored event, and we want
everyone to have a great time playing the fun
game of dodge ball.
Dodge ball officials calls are final.
Any action committed by a player on or off of
the court that is seen as “unsportsmanlike”
may result in disqualification of the player, or
team from the tournament.
Post game handshakes are encouraged.



Random assignment for 1st round games.
Double elimination. (Two losses before your
team is knocked out of tournament)
We have a lot of games to play, so make sure
you are ready for your team to be called to
play.




Payment ($2 per player) and waiver forms are
due before you will be allowed to compete.
5 players is not required for a team, but be
aware that there is no handicap for having
less players.
Team names must be 8 characters or less,
must be different from another team, and
must be appropriate.
Team uniforms aren’t required, but
recommended.

