• ICAO is one of 38 United Nations specialised agencies
• Headquarters in Montreal
• Regional Offices in Bangkok, Cairo, Dakar, Lima, Mexico, Nairobi
and Paris
The ICAO organization
Objectives
– Insure the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation
throughout the world
– Encourage the development of airways, airports, and air navigation
facilities for international civil aviation
– Promote safety of flight in international air navigation
– Promote generally the development of all aspects of international civil
aeronautics
Standards and Recommended Practices
(SARP’s)
• Standards and Recommended Practices are set out in 18 Annexes to the
Convention
• Cover all technical and operational aspects of international civil aviation –
Annex 6 ( Operations of Aircraft ) addresses Cabin Crew.
• Standards are specifications the uniform application of which is necessary for
the safety or regularity of international civil aviation
• Recommended Practice is one agreed to be desirable but not essential

• Enhance the safety and efficiency of air transport
through the establishment of a self-sustaining subregional cooperative entity providing technical services
