• You can determine the identity of a
substance by its density
• It had a double unit : g/ml or g/cmº
• Density =

Density of water
• 1 ml of fresh water (4ºC) weighs one gram.
• All other matter is based relative to this
density.

Float or Sink
• The density of water is 1.0 g/ml
• Anything with a density that is LESS than
1.0 g/ml will FLOAT
• Anything with a density that is MORE than
1.0 g/ml will SINK
