Diploma in Nursing – 3 year
course
Part A – Preparatory course (1.5 years: 60 credits)
Part B – Diploma Proper (1.5 years: 60 credits)
To progress onto Part B of the course you need to achieve an
overall 55C grade in Part A of the course.
Each study unit has a study unit coordinator responsible of
that respective unit.

Registration for study units on the appropriate
registration sheet is COMPULSORY.
In any academic year, students are to register for
a total of 60ECTS credits.
You need to keep a copy of your registration
sheet

If a student fails more than 16ECTS credits
he/she will not be eligible to re-sit.
Students failing more than 16ECTS credits will
need to repeat the year.
After re-sits one cannot carry more than
10ECTS failed credits to the next year.
REQUIRED IMMUNISATION




As a health and safety pre-requisite only students
who are certified to be immune from Hepatitis B
can be allowed for clinical placements at Mater
Dei Hospital and any other entity.
You are therefore expected to complete a full
course of Hep B vaccination and submit a lab
report of your Seroconversion Titre to the Faculty
Officer by December 31st

Attendance




Attendance for lectures, tutorials, seminars, and Practice
placements is OBLIGATORY
Unauthorized absence may lead to being ineligible to sit for
exams, by the Board of Examiners
In cases such as these the student will be awarded a 0
mark = F grade
If student is sick for lectures, the Diploma Course Support

Absence from Exams





If sick on day of exam, please call the departmental
secretary 23401908, by NOT LATER THAN ONE HOUR
AFTER THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE EXAM
A certificate from a medical doctor (not the blue one) is to
be submitted within 24 hours
The name and the registration number of the doctor and
reasons for absence needs to be included in the certificate.
National Insurance forms, or pre printed certificates are
NOT acceptable

Rules of conduct during exams
 No
student is allowed into the
examination hall after the first half an
hour from the commencement of the
exam (including the practical exams OSCEs)
 Any
student caught cheating will be
liable to disciplinary action

International games and
competitions



Students who are chosen (or short listed) to participate in
international games or competitions that are scheduled
during Test weeks, need to request the Kunsill Malti ghal
lis- sport to send an official letter to the Registrar indicating
when student will be participating.
Request is to be sent NOT later than November 1st

Travelling abroad
If a student needs to travel abroad for a JUSTIFIABLE reason,
a letter (NOT email) needs to be sent to the Dean, through
the Head of the Dept, requesting permission to be away
This letter needs to be sent at least ONE month before the
person is going to travel
Do not ask to be away during TEST WEEKS and RE- SIT TEST
WEEKS

Assignments




Some study units will be assessed via an assignment
Deadlines are to be adhered to – if you are finding difficulty
in reaching deadlines you need to speak to the course coordinator prior to the deadline
Study unit leaders will inform you where to hand in
assignments

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is a crime -disciplinary action will be taken
against students found to have breached university’s
regulations by the Faculty or the University Disciplinary
Board
This may include dismissal from University
