Introduction to Athletic Therapy
• History and Background of Athletic Therapy in Canada
– The CATA was established in 1965 by a group of
Athletic Trainers working with professional sports
teams.
– These trainers were highly skilled and educated
individuals charged with returning the injured athlete to
activity quickly and cost effectively.
– The success of these early association members has led
to the growth of the CATA to include a membership of
more than 1200 with a well defined scope of practice.

• In Canada AT is similar to Athletic Trainer
in the USA. In this course we will use the
