USSF North Carolina Arbiter Referee Assignment Site

An Introduction & Guide for Use by Referees © Copyright June 2005 by Paul James, all rights reserved

• This presentation covers in detail the use of the Arbiter system by Referees using the NCSRA USSF North Carolina Arbiter site.

• Because it is approximately 120 slides in length, when this presentation is loaded on our web page it is divided into 4 separate files to reduce download time.

SECTION 1

Before signing on to the site

• Before attempting to sign on to the USSF North Carolina Referee Assignment Site be sure to do the following: • Set your internet browser to accept “cookies” from the arbiter site which is www.thearbiter.net

• Be sure that you have allowed pop ups from the arbiter site.

Email Addresses

• The arbiter system uses your email address as a unique identifier. So to use it you cannot share an email address with another arbiter referee. If you did not list an email address in your last USSF registration NCSRA assigned you a non working email consisting of your [email protected].

Shared Email Addresses

• For those NCSRA referees who on their USSF registration listed an email address shared by another referee, a non-working email consisting of the shared email plus a 1, or a 2, or a 3, depending on how many referees shared the email address, was created. I.e. [email protected]

, [email protected]

, etc.

New Arbiter User Signing on the First Time

• To sign on the first time to the USSF North Carolina Arbiter site you should enter the email address used on your USSF registration, or the assigned non-working one described in the previous slide. For your password you should use your last name, in all lower case letters, including any jr., iii, etc.

Changing Your Initial Password

• After signing on the first time you will be asked to immediately create a new password. If you forget your password you can have it emailed to you by entering your email address at the login and then clicking on the forgot password link. (This only works if you have a working email address in Arbiter).

Existing Arbiter User Signing In to USSF North Carolina Group

• If you are already an Arbiter user in another group, say TISOA, CASL, or French Broad, you will be asked to “join” the USSF North Carolina Group the first time you sign in. Once you do this your assignments and calendar for all joined Arbiter groups will be displayed to you.

Arbiter Groups Listed

• As you can see from the previous slide an official may have several Arbiter Groups to which he or she belongs and in several capacities. Most officials will have only one or two groups and they will belong to those groups as officials, chiefly as referees or assessors.

Select the Group to Sign In

• Once at the Group selection screen a referee should click on the glasses icon on the far right of the screen beside the Arbiter Group you wish to enter.

• If you select the USSF North Carolina Site as an official you will see the Start Page for Group #102762.

• But first we need to cover some basics

Arbiter Standard Functions & Symbols • Before proceeding we will review some of the standard functions of the Arbiter site.

• Arbiter uses standard link and symbol designations throughout the program.

• Whenever you see these link and symbol designations you will know that they always operate consistently.

On any page where you see the NCSRA logo displayed at the top you can click on that and the NCSRA web site will open.

Clicking on start page will always return you to your Arbiter home page. If you belong to more than one arbiter group you can switch between groups by clicking on switch accounts.

Wherever you see these symbols you can take the following actions. Clicking on the + symbol allows you to add or create something.

Clicking on the pencil icon allows you to edit an existing record.

Clicking on the trash can icon will delete that item.

To save whatever you are creating, when you see the green check mark click on it. To cancel or delete what you are doing click on the red X .

Wherever you see text listed in blue, this indicates an active link. If you click on it another field or function will come up.

The pencil and paper icon indicates a note field. If it is red there are no existing notes. If it is green there are already notes but you can still add more notes or read the existing ones.

The R symbol stands for a match report. If it is red it means there is no match report but the center referee could click on it to create one. If it is a yellow R then there is a match report to be viewed but it has not been approved yet. A green R means the report has been approved. Clicking on the yellow or green R will bring up the report for viewing.

These three icons always represent the same thing.

Your personal schedule The schedule of all games in the current arbiter group To access any of these click on the blue link text associated with the icon.

The function which allows a referee to pick one or more games he wishes to watch and not be scheduled on that game or on any other game at that time.

This icon always allows you to select and enter a date when you click on it.

When you click on the calendar icon this field will appear

You can click on any of the dates to insert that date into the record you are using

You can click on any of the fat arrows to change the months or years displayed

The printer icon is used to designate where reports of various types can be downloaded in several different format types.

These are the format types in which any report can be generated from the arbiter.

At the top of any page where you see the Help tab you can click on this for topic explanations, although a lot of areas the help is still being created.

Also wherever you see the Assigner tab at the top of a page, clicking on that will bring up the contact info for the SYRA who is currently supervising the USSF North Carolina arbiter site. Contact information for all other system assignors can be found under the forms link on the start page.
