Requires speaker to address a group of people who are
focused on the

Mass Communication- Occurs between a speaker and a
large number of unknown people. (rallies,
radio broadcasts, etc)

Small Group Communication-Communication between a
small number of people who can see and
talk to each other. (Usually 3-12)

Dyadic Communication- communication between two
people as in a conversation

Public Speaking-Speaker delivers a message with a
specific purpose to an audience who is present
during the delivery of a speech.

Feedback- listener’s response to the message

Types of Speeches

Expository- To Inform


Informative- Helps the audience to understand more
about a certain topic.
Process- Helps the audience to learn how to do or
make something.

Persuasive- To Persuade

Special Occasion- Various Celebrations and
other social occasions.
Topic Selection

Choose something you already know a lot
about.

This should be something that you think the
audience would be interested in hearing.

Make sure the topic is not too broad. We just
need a few minutes not a complete history.
Informative Speech

on the day of the speech.
