Classroom Procedures

Introduction:
• Welcome to Mr. Faber’s Social Studies
class
• I am here to teach; you are here to learn.
I will do my job; you will do yours, and we
will together use this year wisely and
beneficially.
• A positive attitude is the key to success.
Let’s have one all the time.
Entrance
• Make sure you have all necessary materials for

the class before you line up.
If you are missing something, you will do
without.
Stand in line quietly and move forward as the
line moves.
Go directly to your seat.
If you have a backpack, place it at the back of
the room.
Review and copy the daily agenda.
Staying organized
• Backpacks/purses are to remain at the
back of the room.
• Work for classes other than Social Studies
and personal grooming will not be
tolerated. 1st warning: verbal. 2nd
warning: confiscation. 3rd warning: call
home.
During Instruction and Lecture
• Listen to the teacher with full attention.
•

•
Instructions are given once. If you are not
paying attention, you will be lost.
No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering
Ask permission to speak by raising your hand.
Ask questions related to the subject. Other
questions can be asked after instructions
After instruction, make sure you understand the
concept. If you are confused, raise your hand.
While working
• Make sure you are following directions
correctly. When you are finished, reread
the directions to make sure you have
completed everything properly.
• Use your time wisely. Anything not
finished in class may become homework.
• Put forth your best effort to finish your
work on time.
When you finish your work
• When you have completed all class work,
you may:
Begin your homework
Work on your binder
Read a book
If you must leave the room
• You are allowed four bathroom passes per
semester.
• If you must leave the room, fill out your
pass and raise your hand.
• You may only use your own passes.
If you are tardy
• Walk quietly to your desk and sit down.
• Review the agenda and wait for Mr. Faber
to stop talking.
• Ask your neighbor what you missed. Do
so with a whisper. The person on the
other side of the room should not be
interrupted by your whisper.
Dismissal
• When given permission, clean your work
area, throw your trash away in the nearest
trash bin, and stand quietly behind your
pushed in chairs.
• Wait for Mr. Faber to dismiss you.
• Line up quietly outside Mr. Faber’s room
and continue on to your next class when
instructed to do so.
Grading policy
• Homework/classwork: 25%
• Notebooks/binder: 25%
• Tests: 20%
• Quizzes: 15%
• Classroom Participation: 10%
• Letter home: 5%
Homework procedure
• Homework will be posted on your grade level’s
•

•
board. (7th grade: front white board; 8th grade:
white board on the right).
On the first class meeting of the week, you will
be given time to write down your homework in
your agenda. Write down all homework for the
week at that time.
Updates to the week’s assignments will be
announced in class.
No late work will be accepted.
Handing in homework
• Homework will only be accepted on the
day it is due when you first walk into
class, no exceptions.
If you are absent
• Go to the front of the classroom and find your
•

“Missing Student” paper work.
Do the work at home. If you received
homework the day you were absent, you will
receive 1 extra day to complete it. Hand in
homework with a “homework extension” sheet
attached.
If homework was due the day of your absence,
fill out a “homework extension” sheet and hand
it in your first day back.
Email home
• Every Friday, a different set of students each
•
week will write an email/letter home to your
parents informing them of what has been going
on in class.
Letters will include:
What you’ve learned this week.
What assignments were due (% of students that
handed in assignments)
What assignments are coming up
Next test date
Miscellaneous info
Current event article
• Each Friday, students will be required to hand in 1
•
•
•

•
current event article w/ summary and opinion.
Articles must stay on topic (no sports articles) and must
be current (last 2 weeks).
Students will be allowed 1 exempt pass per semester.
(Students writing letters home will also be exempt that
week. Exempt passes held on to will become extra
credit).
A short summary and opinion will be handed in along
with the article itself.
Students will be encouraged to share.
If a student knows he/she will be absent, they must
make arrangements to have it handed in before it is due
or the following Monday.
Classroom Participation
• You will lose class participation points for
the following reasons:
-Classroom issue form
-Missing material
-Not returing nsomething sent home to be
signed
