WET WIPES &
COSMETIC PACKAGING
PRODUCTS
Overview n°3, 09/21/07 - page 3/12
The packaging
The packaging field, is a heterogeneous sector that has different
branches. Each branch has unique and critical characteristics. To
face these differences, Neophane studies a multiplicity of
structures, always keeping in mind the principal functions of a
pack:
- to contain the product
- to protect it from mechanical damage
- to assure a suitable barrier to gas and other vapour
- to prevent or to delay the degradation of the product
- to present and promote the product
The multi-layer materials are produced combining the different
properties of each material, in order to optimise cost,
performance and machinability.

To make the right choice in terms of materials, it is essential to have
a deep understanding of all raw materials involved with the
process (not only the film, but also inks and adhesives), as well as
that of the final product to be packed, knowledge obtainable only
long experience and cooperative partnerships with suppliers and
customers.
Overview n°3, 09/21/07 - page 4/12
The different types of films
The materials normally used for the wrapping of wet wipes and cosmetics
are:
-
Polyester
-
Paper
-
Alu
- Polyethylene
Most of the packaging in common use, are constructed with combinations
of these materialsPolyester: excellent support for printing, thanks to its dimensional
stability when heated, it can be considered as the leading film used in
this sector, thanks to its good barrier properties and its chemical
inertia. Sometimes, it is replaced by co-extruded polypropylene.
Paper: used as printing support, in lamination with other films, it is used
for wet wipes single-dose wrapping, as well as for talcum powder and
soap tablets (in this case with application of hot-melt adhesives).
Aluminium: used in lamination with plastic films, when the success of the
final product is contingent on water vapour and gas resistance.

Polyethylene: used in lamination for its sealing and water vapour barrier
properties.

WET WIPES
Packaging for the wet wipe sector, is a
significant percentage of Neophane’s sales,
in Italy as well as in other European areas.
This is an expanding sector in, as it has well
identified some of the conveniences
required by the modern life, with more and
more diversified products.
Applications:
- household
- personal care and hygiene
- industrial

LDPE SP (also white)
PROPERTIES: wide sealing range with excellent performance (either in
terms of force or hot-tack, as well as in presence of pollutants); high
resistance to chemical attack and good barrier to gas and humidity;
excellent printability (up to 9 colours). For certain personal care lines, the
PET film is substituted by matt BOPP film, giving a soft touch sensation.

vapour. All the other performance parameters remain largely
unchanged, with only a minimum difference in the sealing range.
