 Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago :
 5 major islands and about 30 smaller groups
 total number of islands : 17,500
 sea area : 1.9 million sq km
 Population : more than 200 million people from over
300 distinct ethnic groups (with different dialects)
 The territory of the Republic of Indonesia stretches from
608’ north latitude to 1115’ south latitude and from 9445’
to 14105’ east longitude.
 It lies between two oceans, the Pacific and the Indian and
bridges two continents Asia and Australia.
 Indonesia is an importer country for chemicals and in
another side also act as exporter for consumer product that
contains chemicals

 Because of its geography, most of Indonesian people work
as farmer. This situation affects the total use of pesticide
from year to year.
 Along with technology innovation and the global world that
happen in today world, the production, export/import and
distribution of chemicals, and also the use of chemicals in
consumer product in Indonesia are significantly increase.
 The enormous number of Indonesian population makes
Indonesia becomes a good market for all product consumer
including the ones which contain chemicals.

 Developing work plan for GHS implementation

(aka Indonesian IFCS)
 GHS Socialization with target audiences such
as government, industry, importer, wholesaler
and retailer, in local or national scope :
conduct by NADFC and KNRCI

 GHS Socialization with target audiences such
as government, industry, importer, wholesaler
and retailer, in local or national scope :
conduct by NADFC and Ministry of Industry
 Trainer of Trainee about GHS : conduct by
KNRCI – Jetro/AOTS. This training consist of 3
level : elementary level, intermediate level and
advance level.
 Training “A glance of GHS” : conduct by NADFC
in 5 provinces @ 25 people
 Seminar about GHS : conduct by KNRCI
Participants : 124 people
 Translating the GHS purple book (still in
progress) : conduct by NADFC

 Undertake the phase 1 of GHS-UNITAR Project:
situation analysis and gap analysis
 GHS Socialization with target audiences such
as government, industry, importer, wholesaler
and retailer, in local or national scope : conduct
by NADFC and Ministry of Industry
 Trainer of Trainee about GHS : conduct by
KNRCI – Jetro/AOTS. This training consist of 3
level : elementary level, intermediate level and
advance level. Until now Indonesia already
have :
 39 people in elementary level,
 35 people in intermediate level
 12 people in advance level.
2005  Training “A glance of GHS” : conduct
by NADFC in 5 provinces @ 25 people
 Developing draft of GHS short guidance in
Indonesian Language : conduct by NADFC

 Developing draft of booklet about GHS :

Indonesia acknowledge the importance of
harmonizing the chemicals
classification and Labelling and
therefore agree to implement GHS by 2008
with consideration on Indonesia situation

strategy
3. Increasing the number of trainings about GHS
4. Increasing the GHS Socialization activities, in
number and scope of target groups
