Transcript Slide 1

1 - Practicing the cut moves and turns – 10 minutes
Setup: In a 10x10 grid with 2 attacks on base and 1 defender at other end of
cones
Game: Xs dribble towards end-line at defender (Y) who moves to defend. Xs
cut ball back and return to end line. One X goes at a time.
As soon as the first X has made their cut to return to end line the next X goes.
The defender Y moves to defend the Xs forcing the Ys to try the different cut
moves.

2 - Practicing the turns – 10 minutes
Setup: In a 5 x10 grid with 3 players.
Game: Player X dribbles with ball to end line with Y
shadowing him. X turns ball back to where they came from
with Y following. X leaves ball for player Z who now
dribbles to the end line with X shadowing. Z will then
shadow Y. The dribbler becomes the shadower.
3 - Practicing the turns with pressure – 10 minutes
Setup: 4 small coned goals in a 20x20 grid – coach in middle of the 2 goals
feeding the balls
Game: Coach plays ball towards corner where player X has ran around cone
and turned to control ball – now go 1v1 with Y to 1 of the 2 goals. Using soccer
moves at speed go to goal. Y goes after ball has been played to X If defender
wins the ball, they attack 1 of the other 2 goals – players switch lines

GAME- 3 V 3 TRANSITION – 15 minutes
Setup: 20x30 grid with goal at each end –
teams divided in 2 and those teams divide
themselves into 2.
Game: Play small scrimmage - team
changes (3 on, 3 off) when ball goes over
their end-line or goal is scored by their
opponent.
5 - 6v6 Zone Game 20 minutes
Setup: Team divided in 2 a field 40 yards wide x 60 yards long. Create zones with
cones at each end approximately 10 yards deep and the full width of the field.
Game: Each team defends the zone behind them and attacks the zone opposite
them. A team cannot enter the zone it is defending. A team can enter the zone it is
attacking. A point is awarded to a team that successfully dribbles the ball into the
zone or makes a well-timed pass into the zone as a teammate arrives to receive
it.
Variation 2: Describe a scenario and put time limits on the game to speed up
play…i.e. It is a tie game with 2 minutes remaining. The red team must win the
game to advance into the play-offs.
Coaching Points: Maintain the integrity of individual/group/team attacking shape
while playing under the pressure of even numbers. Tactical speed of the attacking
players…speed of the 1st attacker to find forward options, if they are on; speed of
the 2nd attackers to provide supporting options to the 1st attacker; overall speed of
play of the group. Reinforce coaching points made throughout the session.
Scrimmage – throw-ins, corners, fouls, etc. – rest of practice
