CHVI ALLIANCE

The

CHVI Alliance

is a Canadian network that brings together leading researchers from the public and private sectors, as well as the international community, to develop innovative solutions to the challenges facing HIV vaccine development.

The

Alliance Coordinating Office (ACO)

supports the Alliance and the Advisory Board, focusing on building and sustaining the Alliance, advising the Government of Canada and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on research gaps, prospecting innovative proposals to respond to identified gaps and promoting synergy among Alliance members.

Canadian research community

Guiding Framework for the CHVI Alliance Priority 1 Harness Canada’s excellence in basic science and strengthen linkages with clinical research, social sciences and people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as with vaccine researchers outside the HIV field

• • •

Generate and apply population-level knowledge to drive vaccine discovery and development Strengthen linkages to understand mechanisms of immunity Leverage preclinical resources to test vaccine concepts

Canada’s Niche

• • •

Improve clinical trial and regulatory capacity in Canada and globally through community engagement Engage communities, researchers and policy makers in clinical trial and vaccine preparedness Test HIV vaccine candidates in Canada

Priority 2 Amplify Canada’s strengths in clinical research, community engagement and capacity building globally and nationally

Guiding Framework for the CHVI Alliance (continued) Priority 3 Accelerate the translation of Canada’s scientific discoveries Priority 4 Strengthen and enable new and early-career investigators

• • • • • •

Enablers

Create opportunities to engage industry in advancing vaccine concepts Support researchers and companies in accessing GMP manufacturing capacity Ensure Canadian and global regulators are engaged to accelerate clinical development Integrate new investigators into the larger national/global HIV vaccine effort Increase training in clinical trials and population / epidemiological research Enrich training of researchers from Canada and developing countries

Priority Areas for CHVI Alliance Support by the ACO

Presentation Objectives

What is a Virtual Community?

Communities of Practice (CoP)

are: groups “of people who share a concern, a set of problems, or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an on going basis” (Wenger, McDermott, & Snyder, 2002, p.4). •

Virtual Communities of Practice (VCoP),

without excluding F2F rely primarily on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to connect their members

CHVI R&D Alliance Virtual Community (Alliance VC)

• The

Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative (CHVI) Research and Development Alliance Virtual Community (Alliance VC)

is a confidential internet-based community designed for researchers to collaborate, communicate and share research and to seek information about Canada’s contribution to the global development of an HIV vaccine.

The Alliance VC will help you:

• Stay informed about updates in the field • Communicate with your peers • Collaborate in private committees • Engage in online learning opportunities
