There are a lot of holidays
and traditions in
Russia:Pancake week, New
Year, The first of
September, Mother`s Day,
etc. .Most people set the
table and prepare gifts for
these holidays. Each
holiday is unique and
unusual in Russia.
The Day of Elderly People
In 1990 the UN adopted
the International Day of
Elderly People. On the
first of October there are
different festivals,
conferences and
conventions on the rights
of older people and their
role in the society.
The Day of Elderly People was first
celebrated in Europe, then in
America, and in the late 1990s it was
celebrated all over the world.
This international
festival was introduced
in December 14, 1990.
It officially began on the
1st of October 1991.
People heartily
congratulate on their
parents and
grandparents, veterans
of work and just
strangers. This day is
traditionally celebrated
on the 1st of October 1
in Russia, Azerbaijan,
Belarus, Latvia,
Moldova and Ukraine.
The purpose of the Elderly People.
The purpose of the Day of Elderly
People is to draw public attention to
the problems of older persons, to the
problem of demographic aging of
society as a whole, as well as
opportunities to improve the quality of
life of older persons.
Mother`s Day
Mothers Day is a very popular
holiday in Russia. Children often
congratulate their mothers with
holiday, give flowers. It is a very
young holiday.This day is on different
dates in different countries. Mothers
Day is celebrated in Russia on the
last Sunday of November.
In many European
countries, the USA,
Canada, Japan and
China, Mother's Day is
celebrated on the
second Sunday of
May. On this day
mothers are usually
given flowers,
chocolates, breakfast
in bed or going to the
restaurant.
History
First Mother's Day was held in October 15,
1988 in the school number 228 is author Elmira
Huseynov, a teacher of the Russian
language and Literature,nowadays she
lives
in Stavropol.
Since 1988, every year Elmira Huseynov
celebrates Mother's Day in Baku, then in
Stavropol. Good tradition was picked up by
many schools of the country, the holiday
has become progressively popular.
