Childhood apraxia of speech
• Developmental apraxia of speech (DAS)
• Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS)
– A neurological childhood (pediatric)speech sound
disorder in which the precision and consistency of
movements underlying speech are impaired in the
absence of neuromuscular deficits.

• Difficulty sequencing
• Articulation errors are

predominantly simplifications
• Highly unintelligible speech
• Typical phonological errors,
i.e. (de)voicing of stops,
• Groping behaviour

final consonant deletion

• Atypical phonological errors,

• Articulation errors are, besides
deletion, nasalization of stops
