What is a web page?
The World Wide Web is a collection of
information held in multimedia form on the
Internet
This information is stored in web sites
Web sites are made up of web pages
Viewing Web Pages
To look at web pages you need a piece of
software called a browser
Internet Explorer is an example of a
browser
A browser loads web pages from another
computer on the internet and displays
them on your computer
Creating Web Pages
Web pages are written in a special
language called HTML
HTML stands for HyperText Mark-up
Language
To create web pages you can use:
A Text Editor
A Web Page Editor
Text Editor
To create a web page you could type all of the
HTML code into a text editor, then view it in a
browser to see what it looks like
Advantages:
You don’t have to buy an expensive web page editor
Disadvantages:
You have to know HTML code
You can’t see what the page looks like until it’s
finished

A program specifically designed for creating web
pages
Sometimes called a WYSIWYG editor
WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get
Advantages
You don’t have to know any HTML
What you see on the screen is what your finished
page will look like

Using a browser

Many GPP’s have a ‘save as webpage’ option

Useful for beginners
A template is a ready made blank web page
What can you put on a
web page?
Anything that you can put in a
presentation can be put on a web page:
Text
Graphics
Sound
Video
Hyperlinks

Tables and Hotspots
Tables can be used on web pages to
position elements on the page
Hotspots can be used to put links over
parts of an image
Hotspots can also be used to make
graphics change when the mouse is
moved over them
