-Professional baseball has been
Sharing a stadium with the local
Professional football team since

teams in P.A.
-Search for the site lasted for 2
Years!
-Project given to EwingCole
engineering firm
-Project began Nov. 2001, park opened
April 2004 in time for the 2004 season
Design Goals:
-clear view of downtown area
-open web structural steel system
That supports the artistic elements
of the stadium
-readily accessible to fans
Project Engineering
• Field level is 23ft below street level which is also beneath the water
table
• A system of sewer lines and draining pipes were of crucial
importance to the design and current functionality of the stadium.
• Geotechnical Engineers were used to determine how much ground
water needed to be removed to keep the construction site dry.
• A series of deep wells and drains keeps the water at bay.
• Also, a deep foundation system (comprised of steel H pipes) was
required due to the upper layers of sediment being comprised of
mainly sand and clay.
More Project Engineering
• Concrete shear walls and piers were used beneath the
lower levels of the buildings and the seating bowl to
provide lateral resistance to wind, seismic forces, and
earth pressure.
• The seating bowl itself is one of the most distinctive
features. The concept features a series of straight
seating sections, each angled toward home plate all
around the field.
• The resulting geometry maximizes views of the infield
from each of the 43,500 seats.
