It´s located In Hyvinkää town around 60 kilometers north of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. In its operating environment, Laurea is specializing in service innovations and focusing on regional development of the metropolitan area. Laurea University of Applied Sciences 7 Laurea Hyvinkää – A campus of innovative learning environments • Laurea Hyvinkää campus is an innovative learning environment with circa 1200 students. • It trains in its Bachelor degree programmes experts in nursing, social services and business administration. • It also offers Master degree programmes in health care, social services and business administration. Laurea University of Applied Sciences 8 Learning by Developing • Laurea Hyvinkää campus has advanced teaching methods and a multidisciplinary network of employer contacts, international partners, development projects and innovative learning environments that support the students´ development into experts and that generate competence for developing the private, public and third sectors. Laurea University of Applied Sciences 9 Degree programme (B.A.) in Social Services 1/2 • In Degree programme in social services students learn about the working environment, customers, working methods and development of social services. • Studies emphasize in mental health clients, substance abusers and crisis work preventing the marginalization and guiding social work early childhood education. • In their work bachelors of social services support different aged people, families and communities. Social worker who works as an educator or mentor contributes especially to the welfare of children and young people for example in day care centers, child welfare institutions or as a family Laurea University of Applied Sciences 10 Degree programme (B.A.) in Social Services 2/2 worker. Social worker working in rehabilitation or social support on the other hand supports the elderly, disabled or immigrants. Graduates can become qualified kindergarten teachers by completing 60 credits of studies in early childhood education and social pedagogy. ---------------------------------------• In next two slides I present the contents of two courses in the Degree programme in Social Services that exchange students will be able to complete in english in Laurea Hyvinkää campus as from academic year 2014–2015. It´s possible that there can come some changes in them but only that kind which will not change them totally. Laurea University of Applied Sciences 11 Child welfare (10 ects, online course) • Having completed the study unit the student is able to understand the principles and stipulations of Children's Rights Agreement and Finnish Child Welfare Act. know Finnish child welfare services system and practices. know latest statistics involving child welfare. o It is also possible to do topics above concerning student´s own country. support children and families in different circumstances. evaluate the interest of the child. use various child welfare methods. o Early intervention, preventive and rehabilitation methods. Laurea University of Applied Sciences 12 Multicultural social work (10 ects) • Having completed the study unit the student is able to recognize how individual´s own cultural background effects to her/his values. analyze cultural assimilation process and how it effects to the development of national and cultural identity. analyze cultural structures and processes that cause inequality and marginalization. find ways to function in a multicultural working environment. use various kinds of methods and techniques of community work.
