What is “data”?

Storage Capacity:

3-broad categories: In any customer environment, storage capacity can be classified into -

RAW (or Procured) Capacity

: This is the total storage capacity of all the storage devices in the customer’s environment -

Usable Storage:

Usable (also referred to as Allocated on the mainframe) is defined as follows:

Subset of Raw Capacity that can have data written to it for productive use. Usable Storage is raw capacity less capacity that cannot be written to but that, nonetheless, consumes disk capacity. Examples of non productive capacity: operating/file systems, journaling, parity, RAID, mirroring, formatting, and spare drives

Softek TDMF accelerates IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller implementation

 TDMF focuses on enterprise data migration  The migration of data can be done at any time without disrupting applications…which will enable clients to accelerate SVC implementations  GTS provides structured low risk migration services using TDMF  TDMF can: – Provide migration between SVC clusters – Enable consolidation into a smaller number LUNs as data is migrated into SVC – Significantly reduce the amount of time required to move data, compared to manual methods  TDMF can facilitate consolidation of data centers into fully virtualized and more power and space efficient environments  TDMF can transparently and non-disruptively migrate data FROM unsupported devices TO devices under SVC management, while SVC will handle the migrations of data on supported devices © Copyright IBM Corporation 2008 8
