QUIZ!
Good bye!
Grumman F6F
Hellcat
Eugene Valencia
Eugene Valencia was a brilliant pilot in
world war 2. Over Truk on Feb. 16, 1944,
he became separated from his wingman,
Bill Bonneau, and was attacked by
several zeros. They chased him at length
and fired repeatedly, but couldn't hit him.
Figuring that their poor gunnery didn't
threaten him too much, Valencia swung
around to face his attackers, and shot
down three in short order. On his return
to Essex, he exuded enthusiasm for the
Hellcat, saying, "I love this airplane so
much that if it could cook, I'd marry it."

Under the cover of darkness, on May
17,1943, 19 Lancaster heavy bombers of
Royal Air Force Bomber Command flew over
the coast of occupied Europe on a most
secret mission. The crews had been
specially trained and the aircraft specially
prepared to carry barrel shaped bombs
designed by Barnes Wallis. As the targets
loomed closer, the designated aircraft
initiated their attack runs at very low altitude.
The first Lancaster released its bomb,
followed by the other aircraft in its group, and
as each pulled away the crew could see the
bomb bouncing along the surface of the lake
towards its concrete target, striking it and
finally sinking and exploding. The floods had
drowned some 1,200 German workers and
had cost the RAF eight Lancaster bombers
and their crews.

Its docile handling characteristics, especially important
for a carrier-based plane to be used by a large
number of reasonably well-trained pilots, made it
the Navy's first choice fighter to deploy with the
Essex-class carriers. In the critical years 1943 and
1944, the Hellcat ruled the skies of the Western
Pacific.
Eugene Valencia, one of the Navy's top aces, quipped.
"I love this airplane so much, that if it could cook,
I'd marry it."

Super marine
Super marine was a British aircraft manufacturer. It was set up by Noel
Pemberton-Billing as Pemberton-Billing Ltd. in 1913 to produce sea-going
aircraft. Upon election as an MP in 1916 he sold the company to Hubert
Scott-Paine who renamed the company Super marine Aviation Works Ltd.
They made many aircraft such as the spitfire.

Biography
Hi I’m Alex. I was chosen for the people’s war because I’m good at
history. I made this presentation about aircraft because I find them very
interesting. I have short dark brown hair. I am kind of short. I have two
sister’s and one brother. I like watching TV, especially Red Dwarf and
other comedies. I also like listening to Green Day. My favourite word is
smeg. Which is irrelevant I know! I have 2 hamsters, (well they aren’t
mine they are my sister’s!) they are called Cookie and Marble.
