– Approximately 100 students
– Team Teachers: English, math, science, and social studies teacher
(sometimes a resource teacher)
– Students will also have a literacy class taught by a team teacher

ADVISORY PROGRAM
What?
A program in which a group of
students and an advisor (teacher)
get together…
Goal?
To establish relationships for
learning between students and
teachers…
When?
Once a week (mainly on Tuesday)

ULSS
A SHIFT IN THINKING…
• In the past, services were provided to students
once it was determined that they needed
academic and/or behavioral support.
• Now, services should be provided to students
immediately if achievement begins to lag.
RTI
An approach that requires educators to match instruction
to the academic needs of students (differentiated instruction).
Responsibility for student achievement is a team effort
(student, family, regular and special educators, other service
providers)
Intervention is most effective within the context of the regular
classroom.
Most modifications are considered good teaching
practices for ALL students.
WHY THIS MAKES SENSE:
• Everyone has a unique learning style. If we
appropriately differentiate instruction to meet the
needs of diverse learners, achievement will
likely improve.
• Sometimes, we need help learning something
new. We may need extra one-on-one support or
a model in order to accomplish a task – that
doesn’t make us special education adults, it
makes us human.
