Identifying Safety Hazards
Hazards you may find in your area:
o

Wet floors
Electrical cords across walkways
Blocked exit doors
Hallways congested with equipment
Stairwell doors that don’t close and latch
Beeping AEDs
If you spot an unsafe situation, contact Facilities
(500-3498) or EH&S (500-8100) for resolution

Emergency Notification
RED
Blue
• For use when smoke or
fire is discovered in the
building
•For use during
emergencies when police
response is warranted
• Sends a signal to the
building’s fire alarm
panel
•Sends a silent signal to
UTPD
• HFD responds to the site
of the alarm
•UTPD responds to the site
•No audible or visual
alarms are activated
• Activates audible and
visual alarms in the area
•Not for use in case of fire
Emergency Notification
Fire alarm will sound automatically if:
o Smoke detector senses smoke
o Heat activates a sprinkler
o Pull station activated
Call 911 in the event of an emergency
Call UTPD for security concerns and
non-emergency situations

High Rise Fire Alarm
If the fire alarm is triggered by an
event, the alarm will sound on the:
o Floor immediately above the event
o Affected floor
o Floor immediately below the event

Why?
o Fire separation between floors
o Avoid simultaneous evacuation of
all floors into stairwells

Fire Alarm Event
When the building goes into alarm:
o Alarm sounds
o Flashing strobes
o Announcement
UTPD, HFD, Facilities and EHS are notified
o Alarm will sound until investigated
Evacuation:
o Assemble 75 feet from the building in
departmental designated location

o Especially at large gatherings
o Entrance ≠ EXIT
Escape plan
o Practice it
o Revise it periodically

patient’s heart rhythm

Determines whether a shock
