aware of internet safety and

What type of email addresses are safe?
• Don’t use your full name
• Not gender specific
• Make sure your parents know about your account

Rule #1:
Never open email from addresses you don’t
know!
• Could contain a computer virus
• The sender could be trying to steal personal information
• The sender could be a stranger
Always ask your parents if you are not sure!

What are Passwords?
• Think of them as a key.
• You use keys to lock the house for safety.
• You use keys to lock your car for safety.
• Passwords protect your safety online in the same
way.

• Passwords are chosen by you for protection!
• Keeps outsiders out of your internet accounts
• Some websites require passwords
• Passwords prove to the system that it really is you
logging in
What are Passwords?
• When you make passwords to be able to use websites, you have
to give the websites facts about yourself.
• When you do this and make a password to use, these websites
make a personal “account” for you that only you can use.
• Now you can use these websites. The password you use keeps
the facts you gave safe.
• The password also shows that you have gotten special
permission from the website to use it.

-Cell phone numbers

-Schedules (break ins)

•Someone could buy a lot of things for themselves using

Keep your passwords secret!
• 75 percent of 8- to 9-year share passwords with
someone else
• 66 percent of girls, grades 7-12, said they have shared
their password with someone else.

How can you protect your online passwords?
• Don’t share them with friends
• Don’t leave your passwords written down
where others can find them
• Don’t send passwords via email
• Make a strong password!
