Past 12 Months
Learning Curve
•
Data accuracy improvement and validation;
•
Managing and understanding vast range of assets
Data Validation
To improve the budgeting and work flow management we:-
4|
•
Resurvey buildings;
•
Collect more data but only relevant information;
•
Condition assessment of the assets on a 12 monthly frequency;
•
Defining fire doors and condition assessment;
•
Refinement of bridges and culverts databases; and
•
Creation of databases for other assets

Civil Asset Management Strategy
Asset Management
• The Asset Management Plan (AMP) contains five key asset
disciplines;
• The Civil Asset Strategy includes buildings, dams, roads including
associated bridges and culverts, drainage, concrete and steel
structures;
• Civil Asset Management System (CAMS); and
• Working towards accreditation is a development goal
Compliance Development
• Initial NAMS – a product of IPWEA;
• PAS55 - compliance within 18 months; and
• ISO55000 following its release as it fits well with PAS55
IPWEA – Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia

New Development Initiative
Dam Reporting
Eraring Power Station has a number of dams and canals
Current Process
6|
•
Inspections are performed up to three times per week – paper based;
•
Time consuming;
•
Improvements to data management; and
•
Cost reductions required

New Development Initiative
Recognition of Limitations
•
Time consumed in the information processing and dissemination;
•
Inspection reports invariably lag real time;
•
Trigger mechanisms i.e. no provision for out of design range recognition;
•
Annual reports require significant data collation, manual imputation and
collation
How Can We Improve On This?
7|
•
Reduce cost;
•
Provide an improved and more timely reporting tool

New Development Initiative
To Achieve Better Deliverables
A digital interface is currently being developed with SPM Assets to enhance the
process by:
•
Live data entered via mobile devices with out-of-limit alarms;
•
Both short and long term trending available at any time and not just once a
year after significant data organising and engineering;
•
Data entry reporting is time stamped and registered to the surveillance
officer. Automated report filing and background back up;
•
An email advises plant owner of the update, details and defects
Outcomes
•
Significant cost savings;
•
Preparation for annual reporting requires significantly less time;
•
Importantly, improves plant safety and integrity

EPS SPM Development 2015 and Beyond
Will we continue to use SPM as our data management tool for the
Civil Asset Management System?
No reason to change as the system has provided imputus for a vast
improvement to the way we use to managed our Civil Assets in the past.
We envisage changes and further development with our varied
infrastructure and site based systems as we improve the Civil Asset
Strategies.
