 Have daily conversations with your child about

What does that word mean?

and regularly!
 Find out how the school is preparing students for
these exams or if they are taking any practice tests
 Become familiar with
 The material being tested
 The format of the test, such as multiple choice or
essay
 How the test is scored and what the score means
 How the results will be used

How Did SLUSD Become a Title 3,
Year 4 District?
 San Leandro USD did not meet state identified targets for English
Learners
 AMAO 1 (measured by CELDT)----1st year missed in 2010-11
 AMAO 2-(measured by CELDT)----2nd year in a row missed from 2009-2011
 AMAO 3- (measured by CST)-----4th year in a row missed from 2007-2011
 We entered into Title III, Year 4 Improvement in Fall 2011
 SLUSD is now required to:
 Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of our English Learner
program (completed November, 2011)
 Analyze Achievement Data using the English Learner Subgroup SelfAssessment (completed November, 2011)
 Develop a Title 3, Year 4 plan, identifying high leverage strategies to
increase student achievement for ELs (1st draft submitted to Alameda
County Office of Education on 12/21/11; Final draft approved by school board
on 1/10/12. Will be submitted to state on 1/23/12
 Implement Title 3, Year 4 plan with quarterly monitoring from the state
(begins March 2012)

continuous progress towards language
proficiency in English, (AMAO 1) increasing from
49.2% to 56% on the CELDT
