AGEC and Community College Students
• AGEC is a core of the community college
curriculum
– All transfer associate’s degrees are built
around the AGEC
– Associate in Arts, Business and Science
• AGEC allows students to explore possible
majors
– Supports both decided and undecided students
• AGEC provides key ‘guarantees’ for
transfer students
• AGEC allows students to gain crucial
academic skills that help them succeed at
the university
AGEC and Community College Advisors
• Advisors use AGEC as a map for student
success
– For undecided students, completing an AGEC is
a way to explore different majors.
– For decided students, completing an AGEC is a
way to prepare for major coursework as well
• Advisors use AGEC course lists along with
University Transfer Guides to identify best
strategies for students
• AGEC and the major!
AGEC and University Advisors
• Advisors work with students who have already completed
the AGEC
– Awareness of the benefits of AGEC completion is crucial
• ‘You shouldn’t have done the AGEC!’ - But look at AGEC completers’
success rates!
• What if a student took the ‘wrong’ AGEC for their major?
• Advisors work with students who may be in the process of
completing an AGEC at the community college
– University general education courses may transfer and apply to the
AGEC
