Your ability to recognize and understand emotions in
yourself and others, and your ability to use this
awareness to manage your behavior and relationships
WHAT IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE?
 Your ability to recognize and understand emotions in
yourself and others, and your ability to use this awareness
to manage your behavior and relationships.
 Emotional Intelligence affects how we manage our behavior,
navigate through social situations, and make decisions to
achieve positive results.
WHAT EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IS NOT!
• Not your ability to be nice
• It’s not a “let it all hang out” philosophy for
feelings
• No sex differences
• Not fixed genetically
It can be learned!
