Vitamins are a class of nutrients that contain carbon and are
needed to maintain health and allow growth
Fat soluble vitamins dissolve in fat, most can be stored in fat
tissue and remain in the body for a long time
What are the four fat soluble vitamins?
FAT SOLUBLE VITAMINS (FADEK)
Vitamin
Foods that have it
What it does
A
Milk; yellow and orange fruits
and veggies; dark green, leafy
veggies; eggs; cheese; butter
Keeps eyes and skin healthy;
needed for growth and for

nuts; dark green veggies;
whole grains
Protects cell membraines
from damage by reactive
oxygen

leafy veggies; also produced
in the intestine by bacteria
Aids in blood clotting

deficiency?
What are water soluble vitamins? List 8 of the water soluble
vitamins.
What are fat soluble vitamins? List the 4 fat soluble vitamins.
What are three reasons that water is important?
What foods have calcium and iron in them? And, why do we
need calcium and iron?
What foods have sodium and zinc in them? And, why do we
need sodium and zinc?
What might happen to someone who doesn’t get enough
sodium?
