• Discussion questions:
– Where do you find rhythm?
– Do you find it only in music?

DOGGIE DISCO
Feel the meter
My doggy likes to disco dance.
He boogies every night.
He dances in his doghouse till the early morning light.
The other dogs come running when they hear my doggy swing.
A few will play their instruments.
The others dance and sing.
They pair off with their partners as their tails begin to wag.
They love to do the bunny hop, the fox trot and the shag.
TEMPO
• The speed of a piece
– Using a clock we can gage the speed
– 60 =‘s 1 beat per min
– Beat per min =‘s BPM
– CLUB MUSIC MATCHES BPM’S TO MAKE
SMOOTH MIXES OF YOUR FAVORITE
SONGS.

MELODY
• Part that we remember!
– Gets stuck in our heads
– Long & Flowing
– Expressive
Sentences: they are like the story…the rest is
just effects.
USE OF MELODY
• I as a composer have choices…
• Like colors: A-G with accidentals
• 12 tones before it repeats…oct displacement
• Organized sound with rhythm
• R & M work together to create a piece
HARMONY
• Most sophisticated of all elements
• *costumes, sets, sound, makeup,
audience…all the other stuff
• Before harmony- MONOPHONIC
• HOMOPHONIC- using lines of harmony
• HOMORHYTHMIC- lines match up
• 1960’s: I, vi, IV, V ….all fits into structure to
develop melody
HARMONY
