Team Time
• Each week Tues-Thurs children will have a
quick mini-lesson on a standard in either
math or reading.
• We will use mini-quizzes or class
performance to determine students’
levels.
• Based on the results of those assessments,
children will be placed in a group for
either further enrichment or extra practice
the following week during the Team Time
block.
• The grouping for this is completely fluid
and ever changing depending on
performance on the weekly quizzes and
class work.

Departmentalization
• Last year, we made a change to the way we structure the
teaching of reading, English/language arts, math, science,
and social studies in the 4th and 5th grades. When schools
are departmentalized, students receive instruction according
to subject area, rotating rooms for different subjects. This
year, your child will be on a team of two teachers; however,
one teacher will provide instruction in reading and
English/language arts to both homeroom classes (one
morning session and one afternoon session) and the other will
instruct all the students in math, science, and social
studies. Because we are ensuring that students will write
across the curriculum in almost every area, both teachers will
provide instruction in writing. Students will attend specials,
eat lunch, participate in recess, and have health lessons with
their homeroom class.
Ins and Outs of
Departmentalization
• AM Block and PM Block-ask your
child what their individual schedule
is
• Copy both teachers on e-mails
• Conferences with both teachers
Inspired Classroom
What is it?
The Inspired Classroom model removes the
computers from the perimeter of the classroom
and brings them directly to the students. Students
have easier access to technology, allowing
teachers to integrate it more smoothly into their
instruction. This classroom design helps transform
the way teachers teach and the way students
learn by allowing them to use technology more
easily and in a meaningful way during the learning
process.
Why some classrooms and
not others?
• Before all classrooms undertake the
transition to the Inspired Classroom
model, several teachers have offered to
pilot the arrangement and reflect upon
its impact on teaching and learning. As
the teachers work through the pros and
cons, they can share their reflections and
feedback with others as they begin to
think about moving to this model as well.
What are the benefits of the
Inspired Classroom?
• Allows students to have easier access to
technology on a regular basis
• Increases opportunities for authentic and
engaging learning experiences
• Creates an additional dynamic for students to
communicate and collaborate with their peers
• Increases opportunities for digital literacy and
online learning
• Promotes students engagement
• Provides a student-centered set-up
