Reauthorization process began in 2004 House and Senate approved legislation overwhelmingly in July 2006

FY 2008 President Bush’s Budget
On February 5, 2007 President Bush released his budget for FY 2008

The Administration proposes a 50% cut in funding for the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act education programs

The Administration also proposed elimination of Tech Prep funds within the Perkins Act Association for Career and Technical Education

Department of Education budget would eliminate or consolidate a total of 45 programs
