9 TIPS

1-Decide what you want to write

– Clinical Research – Medical Education – Reflections/Personal Stories – Poetry – Literature Reviews – Clinical Tips – Proceedings of conferences – WHAT INTERESTS YOU…..

2-REB everything

– Get into the habit of getting ethics for what you are doing – Call ethics if you are uncertain – Get documentation from REB

3. Write the paper as you write the grant

– Literature review • Need not be systematic – Methods – Discussion

4. Use an outline

– For each project and for each paper – Decide prior to the start of the project about potential papers and identify leads and deadlines – Break the paper up into smaller and more manageable sections

5-Set realistic writing goals

– Set realistic writing goals – Consider series of smaller papers

5-Protected Writing Time

– Regular time each day for writing – You must try and do this regardless of whether you want to or not – Use time for literature review/reading/outline development – Share your plans with others – Track what you have accomplished
