An Important Place in History
One of the oldest Inns in Windsor, the original building dates back to
the 1500’s.
• First named The Mermaid, the original Tudor building was a mere
25 feet wide
• Throughout its 500 year history its influential Innkeepers have been
responsible for introducing new initiatives such as Mermaid coinage
and its own brewery
• In the 1700’s, a stagecoach service was operated, leaving from the
Castle to Brighton three times a week
• Today, the hotel still prides itself on maintaining the character and
charm befitting its heritage

spectacle of traditional English pageantry. It takes place daily between
April and October and on alternate days between October and March and
can be viewed from the hotels main Lounge area.
Eton College - Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI to provide free
education for 70 poor scholars it is now one of the most exclusive in the
world. Eton has educated 18 former British Prime Ministers along with
Princes William and Harry.
