Each group will create a Wiki page for one of the cultural groups to influence LA. Your wiki page must include: •Explanation of the influences of the cultural group •Explanation of the cultural elements that the group contributed to the state’s heritage •Illustration of the historical patterns of settlement in LA (annotated maps) •Primary sources To research a topic means to study it in detail so that you can present it accurately. We will use this “How to do Research” toolbox to guide your research. It is important to use multiple sources to gather information: • Visit the LA State Museum (Take pictures and take notes during our visit.) • Library Books • Interviews with community members • Internet research, using this Symbaloo: http://tiny.cc/laheritage Use the following note-taking guide to gather your research for your Wiki page: After completing your Wiki page, you will edit and contribute to the other cultural groups’ pages. You will need to edit for grammar, punctuation, and correct information. Your Wiki is complete! What a great way to share the cultures of LA with the world! You will now use what you learned to plan a LA Heritage Festival to commemorate the cultures of LA’s melting pot. Your festival must celebrate each culture and its influences and contributions to LA, as well as exhibit the historical patterns of settlement for each cultural group. •What booths will be present at your festival? •What artifacts will be exhibited? •What kinds of food and entertainment will be available? •How will the booths and exhibits be organized? Work with your group to plan your festival of all of the LA cultures. Use the Wiki that your class created to guide your planning. And, lastly… Laissez les bons temps rouler!
