Topic BES 1 - 2014: Maritime Border Security topic 1: radar systems for the surveillance of coastal and pre-frontier areas
and in support of search and rescue operations
Interest to be partner
SMI2G MEETING 2014
January 23 – 24 2014, Bruxelles
Role in the project
>Objective:
>
To develop an innovative system based on X-band marine radars for search and
rescue application. The analysis of marine radar data provides real time
information about sea surface current and waves. This allows at localizing with
good accuracy the search area so to improve the efficiency of the rescue
procedures. The possibility to exploit radars of improved performance will permit
to design “ad hoc” techniques able to produce more accurate results.
>
Analysis of marine radar images to extract sea state parameters as: direction,
period, wavelength of dominant waves, significant wave height, surface current
and bathymetry maps.
>Relevant Experience:

>
Involvement in the WAVE RADAR coastal network for sea state, current and
bathymetry monitoring

Marine X-band Radar
>Expertise:
Products and outcomes
Local and remote databases
• To store sea state measurements and current maps in local
(on board) and remote database for time series generation
and post processing.
GeoView
• Integrate the results in a Web-Scenario (geo-reference on
web maps)
.

Marine X-band Radar
Waves and current monitoring
• To develop and use in real conditions X-band radars for the
estimation of sea wave, and surface current from fast vessels
and/or costal installation.
• To design an operational strategy, based on sea and wind
information, as support to search and rescue operations.
