Signature Programs
Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK)
• Is to increase elementary school students’
aptitude in math and science and their interest
in pursuing STEM (science, technology,
engineering, math) career fields, by having them
engage in interactive, team-based engineering
projects.
• A free three-week program targeting students in
grades 3-5.
• APPLY TO BE A SEEK MENTOR FOR NEXT
SUMMER!!! Applications open at the beginning of
October!

• Training Institute- The primary focus is on creating
technical companies through offering training for
current and prospective business owners.
• Elevator Pitch and Business Plan CompetitionsGives members the opportunity to present a
Business Plan to panels of experts who can offer
feedback and guidance.

TORCH
• STEM Community Training-Formal classroom style
education in STEM fields aimed at both youth and adults.
• Informal Science and Engineering Education-Casual
outreach activities, targeted at youth, which aim to show
how science and engineering can be fun.
• A Walk for Education-A single day outreach activity
aimed at encouraging youth to be better prepared for
higher educational opportunities in STEM fields, and in
general.
• Technical Expertise Services-Using our technical skills to
provide a direct service to the community.
• Traditional Community Service Activities-Any other type of
community service: food or clothing drives, volunteering
at a shelter, etc.

Retention Program
• To improve the graduation rates of Blacks in the field of
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM).
• This will be the umbrella for three different programmatic
pieces designed for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
– Freshmen- successfully matriculate into a science,
technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) major for
their sophomore year.
– Sophomores- interaction with faculty and staff, personal
development and leadership opportunities, and career path
development.
– Juniors- preparation for graduate school admissions and/or
entry into the engineering industry, increased performance on
the GRE, and opportunities for volunteer, educational, and
paid experiences in engineering.

• Find students (focus on freshmen)

• Create test/homework bank
• Reserve rooms for study sessions
• Emphasize a collaborative learning and community
