Management of reserves
• Nature and cultural reserves are decided upon
and managed by the County Adminstrative
Board or a municipality
• The management of the reserves can be
transferred to another trustee if certain
conditions are fulfilled
Management of national parks
• CAB is generally the trustee of the national
parks in the county
• Exceptions have been made by the
Government
Exceptions
• Tyresta NP by Stiftelsen Tyrestaskogen
• Kosterhavets NP by Kosterhavsdelegationen, evaluation
2014
• The world heritage site Laponia including four
nationalparks:
Sarek
Padjelanta/Badjelánnda
Stora Sjöfallet/Stuor Muorkke
Muddus/Muttos
by Laponiatjuottjudus, for a trial period 2012– 2014
Tyresta
• Tyresta Forest Foundation is the manager of Tyresta national park
and nature reserve.
• The foundation was formed in 1993 when parts of the area became
a national park and several landowners and stakeholders should
agree.
• The Environmental Protection Agency, the County Administrative
Board of Stockholm, the City of Stockholm and the municipalities of
Haninge and Tyresö allocated funds that would cover the
administrative costs in the future.
• The area is managed by an office headed by a board consisting of
the above institutors.
Kosterhavet
• Kosterhavets National Park is managed by an office, which
is part of the Nature Conservation Unit at the County
Administrative Board of Västra Götaland.
• Management is guided by a delegation,
Kosterhavsdelegationen, including:
The County Administrative Board
Tanum and Strömstad municipalities
Koster Board, a politically independent local ”parliament”
Community associations on Resö-Galtö, Rossö, Tjärnö and Koster
The organization for local professional fishermen
The scientific station Tjärnö (University of Gothenburg)
Laponia
• The Government prescribes the terms in a
new ordinance of Laponia
• Laponiatjuottjudus will be evaluated at the
end of 2014
World Heritage
• Responsible central authorities are the
National Heritage Board and the
Environmental Protection Agency
• The ambition is that each designated World
Heritage Site should have a supervisory board
where the CAB is involved
Different kinds of management plans
1. Skötselplan - the concept in legislation, the
decision to protect a national park or a
reserve shall include a plan for conservation
and management
2. Bevarandeplan – Natura 2000 sites
3. Förvaltningsplan – not a concept in
legislation, generally has a broader approach
