SciFinder Scholar is the major English language
bibliographic database covering all aspects of
chemistry and chemical engineering.
It indexes articles published internationally in
journals and conference proceedings and also
includes references to book chapters, patents,
dissertations, etc.
Over 1,600 key chemical journals are indexed
cover to cover since 1994.
Over 8,000 journals are monitored.
Goes back to 1907 and is updated daily.

Citations to journal articles and patents are
available from 1999.
Full-text linking is available to journals McMaster
Libraries subscribe to.
Includes Medline from 1958, a bibliographic
database covering medicine and related areas.
Please note: there is a limited number of
simultaneous accesses to this database for which
McMaster Libraries pay an annual subscription fee.
Please remember to LOG-OFF. To access it outside
the library, you need to install the Citrix software:

b. Obtaining Articles
If an article is not available electronically, check the Library’s online catalogue,
MORRIS, to see if the journal is available in print. Remember to search by the
title of the journal, name of conference, etc., and not by the title of the
article.
If the journal is not available from the Library, you can order a copy of the article
through interlibrary loan:
CISTISource http://library.mcmaster.ca/ilds/cisti-index.htm
This service provides articles published in journals after 1993 within 2 days of
ordering them. You have to come to the Library to pick up the article. You will
not be notified when it arrives.

b. Obtaining Articles (cont’d)
RACER http://library.mcmaster.ca/racer.htm
For journals not available through CISTISource, you can place an order
through RACER. You will receive an e-mail when the article has arrived.
You can also order books, conference proceedings, etc.
There is a flat fee of currently $5.00 per article (or photocopy) which is yours to
keep, received either through CISTISource or Racer.
There is no charge to borrow books, conference proceedings, etc.
This concludes the session..
