It is no longer a book repository; it is an
information management center or a
research & learning center.
Technology has transformed the library
services
Information is delivered faster and more
accurately.
Any person can send or receive data,
information, or knowledge through the web.


Technology is beautiful and fun!
But … when using “new” technologies,
planning is the key to success!



Collaboration between the classroom and the
library is essential for effective instruction.
Librarians can help English language learners.
Teachers can help libraries and librarians.


Digital native vs digital immigrant?
It deals with the ability to find the information
needed, read it and understand it, decide
whether to save it or not and how to do it,
how to evaluate information and sources
critically, and share that information.



Web 2.0 is not only a change in technology,
it is a change in the attitude: collaboration
and cooperation, participation, collective
creation or “mass wisdom” – “architecture of
participation”
In Web 1.0, “they did it for you” … in Web
2.0, “you help to do it”.
Readers or users can contribute with the
content.








It is a key tool of Web 2.0
When a source publishes new content
through a channel, we are notified (feeds)
The content goes to the user; the user does
not go to the content.


An application that collects in one site,
contents coming from different sources.
Web based:
Google Reader, Google News, Bloglines,
iGoogle, My Yahoo, etc.




Also called Weblogs
They are online journals with entries
organized cronologically, with links and
comments on different topics.
Blogs open the classroom into a wider world.

It is a hybrid application: a combination of a
social network and microblog
Users write short messages (up to 140
characters called “tweets”
Two roles:
- You can be a “follower” of other users and
read tweets written by others
- You can be followed by other users. You
write tweets for others.




Internet is a treasure of resources.
It provides unparalled ability to collaborate.
BUT … Internet use can be non-productive…
AND … universal access does not guarantee
success in education.
Training is the key – train the teachers, train
the students.




Visit your libraries and work shoulder to
shoulder with your librarians!
Be brave, take some risks, and try at least one
of these tools!
Web 2.0 applications do fit with the view of
language teaching in the 21st Century!
We have to work together … join other
devoted teacher in collaborative efforts!
