Reading




ORT is the main scheme – important to
read in order. We also have books from
another scheme (Collins Big Cat). Books
are now colour banded. Teachers will
change books as and when needed.
IMPORTANT – after reading with your
child please sign the reading record – it
will then be changed
Reading books can be changed as often
as you wish (just need to be placed on
Green table!)
Quizzes – most books from Stage 3/4
onwards have an online quiz testing the
children's comprehension levels.
A great site!!

Reading at school



Children will be heard read
independently each week.
Children have lots of access to
reading – Shared reading on the
SMART board i.e. animated
stories, Guided reading with the
teacher or a TA, quiet reading
times etc
Remember your child will be
constantly using their Literacy
skills in all lessons!
Spellings



Spellings will be sent home on a
Friday and tested each
Friday(they need to be returned to
school on Thursday)
To begin with the children will all
be tested on the High Frequency
words reinforcing previous
learning.
Spellings will then be sent home
dependent on the child’s ability and
evidence shown within their
written work in school.
P.E.


This will take place on a
Tuesday and Friday
Children will need to have
named indoor and outdoor kits
and appropriate footwear in
school at all times
Keeping hydrated




Children are asked to bring in
a named sports cap bottle
filled with water
Please no squash!
Children can refill their drinks
during the day and can access
them whenever needed
We encourage the bottles to
be taken home and washed
daily
BAGS!

A reminder that children only
require a school book bag – we
have limited storage space and
cannot accommodate large
ruck sacks
Working with your child



This year we shall be having one Learning
Together session and one SHARE session
– details will be shared as soon as
possible
During these sessions we invite
parents/carers/grandparents/aunts and
uncles etc to come and work alongside
the children.
There will be other times during the
year where we shall invite you in and will
try to give plenty of notice.
End of Year Assessments


The children are continually
assessed throughout the year
It is my assessments that are
reported – not a one off test!
