Transcript Output Devices

Their application and their use.
Printers
Printers are the most output device used in a
Computer.
 With the help of a printer you can print out
your work from your PC.

Daisywheel Printer
It is a printer that has a daisy with metal
embossed characters instead of petals.
 The wheel homes on the particular character,
a hammer strikes the character to make
contact with the ribbon and the paper. This is
how the daisy printer prints.

Chain Printer
This is like a daisywheel printer. The
difference is that it has a chain with the
characters.
 The chain revolves, hammers strike the
particular characters to print, the same way
as the daisywheel does.

Line Printer

It is made up of concentric disks like
round slices on a shaft. Each slide has a
character along the circumference and
able to rotate around the shaft
independent of the others.
Dot Matrix Printer.
The head consisting of a column of pins moves
along the paper sideways. Particular
combinations of pins are fired onto the ribbon,
making contact with the paper to compose the
character or graphic
 Printers varies from 9 to 24 pins.

Ink jet printer

It generate heat to make special ink expand.
Then with the help of the nozzles it spray it
on the paper. This is how these printer print.
Page printers

It is like all other printer that entire one page
at a time.
Thermal printers

A printer that uses heat to transfer an
impression onto a paper. This is how these
printers print.
Impact printers

Impact printers are printers that touch the
paper to print. This means there is contact
between the paper and the machine. Examples
are Dot matrix, line printers, plotters and
daisywheel printers
Non-Impact printers

These are printers that don’t have contact
with the paper. These give a better quality
and make less noise than impact printers.
Examples are: Laser printer thermal and
inkjet printers.
Plotters.
Also known as graphic printers. These printers
can give you a hard copy in A3 size or above.
 There are 2 types of plotters- Flatbed plotter
and drum plotters.

VDU
It is for short for Visual Display unit. It is
the monitor or screen.
 With the help of a VDU you can see your
work on the monitor.

Projectors.
A projector is a machine that with the help
of it one can show or see the work not from
a monitor or screen but even on the wall if
using a projector.
 It is used in halls, schools etc. to show in a
bigger form.

CRT monitors

These are monitors that are a bit big. With
the help of these, you can see the work on
the PC.
TFT monitors

These are monitors that are called “flat
monitors” because they are almost flat. These
are thinner than CRT monitors.
Speakers

Speakers are used almost in
everything: in cars, in a computer, in a
T.V. set etc. These are used to produce
sound so you can hear.
Raster Image and Vector image

The rectangular area
of a display screen
actually being used to
display images. The
raster is slightly
smaller than the
physical dimensions
of the display screen.
Also, the raster varies
for different
resolutions.
