Despite large number of total jobs, some occupations had few on-line postings.
This could suggest:
1) Employers advertise these jobs differently (networking, newspaper, etc.)
2) There may be a saturated job market for these jobs.

What skills do I need to
polish to get a job in
Logistics and Supply
Chain Management?
16
Supply Chain and Logistics Skills Gap?
A skills gap analysis in process through the Rutgers Business
School Supply Chain Management Program has found that
employers are satisfied with technical skills. They are
seeking:
• Communication and Presentation Skills
• Networking Skills
• Software Skills (PowerPoint)
Recent LWD analysis suggest sales, marketing, and Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills,
including several programming skills, are in demand in the
TLD industry.

New Jersey TLD Fast Facts
•
TLD is one of the biggest industries in the State of New Jersey. In 2009, TLD employed
over 350,000 workers in New Jersey (11.9 % of the state’s private sector workers)
•
The TLD industry hired over 35,000 workers each quarter in 2009-2010 to fill new and
replacement jobs
•
TLD contributed 48.6 billion current dollars to the state’s gross domestic product (GDP)
in 2009 (4.2 % of the nation’s GDP generated from TLD)
•
Located between New York City and Philadelphia, New Jersey is within a day’s drive of
40% of the US population, within reach of 40 million people who purchase $2 trillion in
merchandise each year.
•
Employers report difficulty finding qualified workers at a time when many people are
looking for work, particularly supply chain managers with communication and
presentation skills

Labor Planning and Analysis, October 2011.
25
The Future of New Jersey TLD?
• From 2008 to 2018 it is projected that payrolls in TLD will grow
more slowly over the 10-year period (+0.7% or 2,750 jobs) than the
state’s economy as a whole (+2.8%).
• However, the need for transportation and distribution services will
likely continue to increase with the state’s population over this
time. Several major projects are planned that are expected to add
TLD jobs including:
– Port Newark Container Terminal signed a 20-year lease
extension, future port volume expected to increase
– Raising the height of the Bayonne Bridge to accommodate
larger ships from the Panama Canal reconfiguration
As a result, trucking, warehousing, and freight forwarding
employment may be impacted.
