Region: Boreal and Taiga Forest



Boreal and Taiga Forest is the largest
vegetation region in Canada.
This area is much too cold for trees to grow.
The Coniferous trees or Evergreens in this
region rarely have needles.
Region: Grassland




The climate in this region is too dry for most species of
trees to survive.
Grassland consists of 3 sub-regions:
The driest areas of southern Saskatchewan and Alberta
make up the Short Grass prairie.
The only types of vegetation in this area are short
grasses, sag brush and cactus.
Long Grass prairie is ideal for growing grains, oil seeds.
Produces some of best grains in world.
Parkland Long Grass prairie is dotted with clumps of
trees.
Coniferous trees grow in Northern part and Deciduous
grow in the Southern part.
Region: Cordilleran Vegetation



The temperature is
warmer in the valleys
than in the mountains.
The rainfall on the west
side of the mountain is
usually heavier than the
east side.
The grasses and
cactuses grow in the dry
and hot valleys on the
east side.



The vegetation changes
greatly as the altitude
becomes greater.
There are forests of
coniferous trees on the
lower slopes. This is
where the precipitation
is heavier.
The vegetation on the
higher part of the
mountain is similar to
tundra.
