Comparison of Means
The basic analysis of SPSS that will be
introduced in this class

Compare means
You can generate a simple comparison table. Comparing the
mean of one variable to the mean of another.

One sample T test
The one sample T test analysis compares an expected value with
the mean derived from the values of a single variable. To run the
test you choose the variable to be averaged and the value you
expect.

The file used in this example is employee data.sav
Frequencies

Select ‘Analyze menu’ click compare means then
select variable (beginning and current salary into the
dependent list and employment category in the
independent list. You can click on options and select a
variety of statistics

Click on OK
Independent – one samples T test

Enter the test value of 12. The avrg no of years of education
of all employees is compared to 12. Select your options and
click on OK
