Custodial Staff

Responsibilities

Your work creates the “first impression” of the building. This is a very important job.

Wear your name badge so patrons know you work for the Adams Center.

You are an important customer service representative - Make eye contact, smile and be polite!

If someone asks a question and you don’t know the answer, help them find it.

Be Ready!

Arrive on time for your shift, and know about the event you are working.

When you check in, pick up a radio and make sure you know how to use it properly.

Wear comfortable closed toed shoes.

Wherever you are in the building, always be aware of the location of the nearest exit.

Be Prepared

Each event is typically staffed with one male attendant and one female attendant.

Before the event, know where to find extra trash bags, Wet Floor signs, and a rag.

Make sure there are (2) mops with buckets ready to go.

Keep garbage and boxes out of the Concourses, walkways, and the elevator hallways.

Keep Moving

Pick up trash as you notice it.

Check restrooms regularly, keeping them tidy and stocked.

Empty trash before it is flowing over.

Look for then clean spills or patron created messes and biological messes.

Radio for assistance for spills needing a mop. Stay with the spill until a Wet Floor sign is set up or the spill is cleaned.

Security Issues

(1 of 2) You are a great resource to keep an eye out for security issues. If the crowds behavior changes, note this to your Supervisor. If notice someone who has had too much to drink or is being disruptive, radio your supervisor and /or call the person to the attention of the nearest Event Staff. Keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings.

Security Issues

(2 of 2) Be aware of where the Event Staff personnel are located in the building.

Be prepared to assist Event Staff if they are handling a situation.

Event Staff may be assisting a patron who is injured, and you may need to find someone with a radio to call an EMT or a Uniformed Officer.

Lost And Found

When you come across lost items, or a patron brings you items they found take them to the Adams Center Admin Office. Frequently, we end up with wallets, ids, cameras, purses, glasses, etc.

Almost always, people call the next day and are so grateful to retrieve their things.

Incident Report

If someone falls or suffers an injury for emergency help call 243-4000 or 243-6131.

Immediately radio your supervisor and report there is an incident and your location.

Stay with the person until help arrives.

With the help of your Supervisor, complete an Adams Center Incident Report.

 Be very accurate and objective; don’t interpret intention or emotional status. Describe behaviors and actions.

If you see any damage to the building please let your Event Manager or supervisor know.

Emergency

If an emergency arises and the building is being evacuated: Go to the nearest exit, speak in an authoritative, strong voice, and Call out, “Here is an Exit.” Encourage people to be calm and walk.

When you see no other patrons, exit the building yourself.

Once outside, meet up with all other employees in Lot P (west of the Adams Center).

Thank You!

From your Adams Center Event Staff
