1 Dominique Ucbas 2 Vice President Diversity & Advocacy 3 4 Question Time Report Areas of Responsibility • Provide a lead on issues of students’ rights and welfare, and represent these issues to the university. • Ensure that all students receive the necessary advice, support and representation, regardless of background and that our services remain accessible. • Take a lead on celebrating diversity within our membership and the wider community. • Ensure the implementation of, and adherence to, an effective equal opportunities policy. • Oversee, and provide support to, the work of liberation and Faith & Belief groups. I am the Chair of: • Diversity & Advocacy Forum I sit on the following University committees: • Quality Assurance Committee • Equality & Diversity Strategy Committee Manifesto Pledges Hold monthly meetings with the President of each ethnic, liberation, faith and charitable society. Promote safe space and zero tolerance policy across campus. Set up forums where students can be made aware of their rights at work and can raise concerns about their workstudy balance 1 2 3 4 What I have done so far: • Trade Union link: Trade union fair and link with Unite the union • Living Wage presentations for NUS: Potentially get more unions to adopt Living Wage 1 2 3 • Training sessions: Nightline, Equality & Diversity • Diversity & Advocacy forum: policy creation • Black History Month: Publicity and film screening • Human Library: Event with Liberating Disability group & university 4 What I am still working on: • Election turnout: conducting research with strategy team • Zero Tolerance: promote, training & lobby university • Hate Crime- 3rd Party Reporting centre: promote & training • Cross-liberation events: work with Liberation groups, more Human Libraries, Diversity Day festival with VPAD • Multi-faith events: Inter-faith week, multi-faith rooms • Multi-cultural events: Global Village/Food Fair in Re-freshers • Ethical policy: Ethical purchasing and investment • Asylum-seeker policy: Writing paper for university • Equality & Diversity committee: formation 1 2 3 4
