STUDY TRAJECTORY
Prerequisites
• You don’t have to have credits for all courses to start the
master’s programme; combination of both programmes is
possible
• You have to pass the preparatory programme/bridging
programme to start the Master’s Thesis. You can only
start the Master’s Thesis in the beginning of the
academic year.
Formalities
• Cumulative Study Efficiency
• The ratio of the number of obtained credits and the total number of
credits taken, both spread across the whole programme.
Examples
•
•
Michael is enrolled in a Master’s programme of 60 credits. He obtains a passing
result (10/20 or above) for every course in this programme.
•
Carla is also enrolled in a Master’s programme of 60 credits. She obtains a passing
result (10/20 or above) for every course in this programme, except for one
course. She obtains an 8/20 for this course. This is a course of 6 credits.
Formalities
•
Simon is enrolled in a Master’s programme of 120 credits. In 2009-2010 he takes
60 credits. He obtains a passing result for almost every course, except for 2
courses, one of 4 credits and one of 3 credits.
In 2010-2011 he retakes the courses he failed and he enrols for the complete
second stage of his Master’s programme (60 credits). He obtains a passing result
for all but one course of 8 credits (with a 9/20).
Formalities
• Tolerances
Only in bridging/preparatory programme and not in the
master’s programme
o You can put in a ‘tolerance’ for one course (max. 6
ECTS) if you have a 8/20 or 9/20
o In that case you don’t have to redo the course
o A minimal CSE of 50% is the condition
o In KULoket
• Questions about tolerances and CSE
o Lien Artois

Formalities
• Re-enrolments

Master’s Thesis

research topic in a particular discipline,
• to apply the discipline-specific research method and

The writing of the master’s thesis is the tailpiece of the

What is a Master’s thesis?
• The master’s thesis is a full-year course unit. This means

• Students who study part-time are highly recommended to
take on the master’s thesis in the final stage of their
programme
