Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
17
and if children, then heirs—heirs of
God and fellow heirs with Christ,
provided we suffer with him in order
that we may also be glorified with
him.
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
18
For I consider that the sufferings of
this present time are not worth
comparing with the glory that is to be
revealed to us.
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
19
For the creation waits with eager
longing for the revealing of the sons
of God.
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
20
For the creation was subjected to
futility, not willingly, but because of
him who subjected it, in hope
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
21
that the creation itself will be set free
from its bondage to corruption and
obtain the freedom of the glory of the
children of God.
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
22
For we know that the whole creation
has been groaning together in the
pains of childbirth until now.
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
23
And not only the creation, but we
ourselves, who have the firstfruits of
the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait
eagerly for adoption as sons, the
redemption of our bodies.
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
24
For in this hope we were saved.
Now hope that is seen is not hope.
For who hopes for what he sees?
Romans 8:17-25 (ESV)
25
But if we hope for what we do not
see, we wait for it with patience.
Introduction
The road to Christ’s glory is tougher
than you think.
One condition needs to be met:
Suffering
_____________
I.
The ________
Nature of Suffering
Romans 8:18 (ESV)
18
For I consider that the sufferings of
this present time are not worth
comparing with the glory that is to be
revealed to us.
II Corinthians 11:22-28 (ESV)
22
Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are
they Israelites? So am I. Are they
offspring of Abraham? So am I.
II Corinthians 11:22-28 (ESV)
23
Are they servants of Christ? I am a
better one—I am talking like a
madman—with far greater labors, far
more imprisonments, with countless
beatings, and often near death.
II Corinthians 11:22-28 (ESV)
24
Five times I received at the hands of
the Jews the forty lashes less one.
II Corinthians 11:22-28 (ESV)
25
Three times I was beaten with rods.
Once I was stoned. Three times I
was shipwrecked; a night and a day
I was adrift at sea;
II Corinthians 11:22-28 (ESV)
26
on frequent journeys, in danger from
rivers, danger from robbers, danger
from my own people, danger from
Gentiles, danger in the city, danger
in the wilderness, danger at sea,
danger from false brothers;
II Corinthians 11:22-28 (ESV)
27
in toil and hardship, through many a
sleepless night, in hunger and thirst,
often without food, in cold and
exposure.
II Corinthians 11:22-28 (ESV)
28
And, apart from other things, there is
the daily pressure on me of my
anxiety for all the churches.
Genesis 3:17-19 (ESV)
17
And to Adam he said,
“Because you have listened to the voice
of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you;
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of
your life;
Genesis 3:17-19 (ESV)
18
thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for
you;
and you shall eat the plants of the
field.
Genesis 3:17-19 (ESV)
19
By the sweat of your face
you shall eat bread,
till you return to the ground,
for out of it you were taken;
for you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”

The ________

A. We cannot avoid the _________
of Paul
Mark 8:27-33 (ESV)
27
And Jesus went on with his disciples
to the villages of Caesarea Philippi.
And on the way he asked his
disciples, “Who do people say that I
am?”
Mark 8:27-33 (ESV)
28
And they told him, “John the Baptist;
and others say, Elijah; and others,
one of the prophets.”
Mark 8:27-33 (ESV)
29
And he asked them, “But who do
you say that I am?” Peter answered
him, “You are the Christ.”
Mark 8:27-33 (ESV)
30
And he strictly charged them to tell
no one about him.
Mark 8:27-33 (ESV)
31
And he began to teach them that the
Son of Man must suffer many things
and be rejected by the elders and
the chief priests and the scribes and
be killed, and after three days rise
again.
Mark 8:27-33 (ESV)
32
And he said this plainly. And Peter
took him aside and began to rebuke
him.
Mark 8:27-33 (ESV)
33
But turning and seeing his disciples,
he rebuked Peter and said, “Get
behind me, Satan! For you are not
setting your mind on the things of
God, but on the things of man.”

Philippians 3:7-11 (ESV)
7
But whatever gain I had, I counted
as loss for the sake of Christ.
Philippians 3:7-11 (ESV)
8
Indeed, I count everything as loss
because of the surpassing worth of
knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For
his sake I have suffered the loss of
all things and count them as rubbish,
in order that I may gain Christ
Philippians 3:7-11 (ESV)
9
and be found in him, not having a
righteousness of my own that comes
from the law, but that which comes
through faith in Christ, the
righteousness from God that
depends on faith—
Philippians 3:7-11 (ESV)
10
that I may know him and the power
of his resurrection, and may share
his sufferings, becoming like him in
his death,
Philippians 3:7-11 (ESV)
11
that by any means possible I may
attain the resurrection from the
dead.
II Corinthians 3:16-18 (ESV)
16
But when one turns to the Lord, the
veil is removed.
II Corinthians 3:16-18 (ESV)
17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and
where the Spirit of the Lord is, there
is freedom.
II Corinthians 3:16-18 (ESV)
18
And we all, with unveiled face,
beholding the glory of the Lord, are
being transformed into the same
image from one degree of glory to
another. For this comes from the
Lord who is the Spirit.
