Why pursue the agenda for
registers?
• Routinely collected NHS data inadequate
– No codes for many new procedures/technologies
– Safety and efficacy data negligible
• Controlled research trials problematic
– Need for data may not be adequate question
– Obstacles and delay in arranging
– “Only in research” may stop use
How helpful are data from registers?

• Provide in “in use”/“real world” information
