Who We Serve…
• The Regional Food Bank provides enough
food to feed more than 90,000 hungry
Oklahomans every week.
• The majority of those served by the Food
Bank are families struggling to make ends
meet, children living in poverty and seniors
living on a fixed income.
• Many are newly unemployed or
underemployed.
• Many found themselves in need of
assistance after the May tornadoes and
floods ravaged the state.

REGIONAL FOOD BANK OF OKLAHOMA DISTRIBUTION
In fiscal year 2013, the Regional
Food Bank distributed 47.9
million pounds of food through
a network of more than 1,000
charitable feeding programs
and schools throughout 53
central and western Oklahoma
counties.

Food for Kids Backpack Program
• Less than 10 years ago, the
Backpack Program started with
180 children in five elementary
schools in Oklahoma County.
• Today, we are serving more than
15,160 chronically hungry
children in 477 elementary
schools in 53 central and
western Oklahoma counties.
• 100% participation from OKCPS
elementary schools for the first
time ever.

• 38 schools were new to the
program this year, including
one Head Start program.
• Each child receives a
backpack filled with shelfstable, nutritious food to
sustain them over weekends
and holidays when school
meal programs are not
available.

Kids Cafe
• 35 Kids Cafe sites provide an afterschool safe haven
for at-risk youth where children can receive a meal
and get help with homework and life-skills.
• 176,240 meals and snacks were provided to 1,600+
children in fiscal year 2013.
• We partner with churches, community centers,
housing authorities, Boys and Girls Club
• More fresh fruits and vegetables are made available
on a regular basis as we worked to improve the
nutritional content of all meals.

Summer Feeding Program
• The Summer Feeding Program provides a free
breakfast, lunch, or both to children ages 118 during the summer break from school.
• The Regional Food Bank operated its Summer
Feeding program through the Summer Food
Service Program (SFSP) at 56 sites during the
summer of 2013, providing more than
180,000 meals for children in need,
compared to 157,000 meals in 2012.
• Summer Feeding for rural communities is
underwritten by a grant from the Sodexo
Foundation.

School Break Program
• During fiscal year 2013, 16 sites
participated in the school break
program.
• 1,500 students received nearly
15,000 meals over the school
break.

School Pantry Program
• The School Pantry Program was
piloted at two schools during the
2010-2011 School Year:
• The Regional Food Bank is currently
operating 91 School Pantries
throughout the metro area.
• During the 2012-2013 school year,
the School Pantry program served
over 2,875 students and distributed
410,328 pounds of food – the
equivalent of 341,940 meals.

Hunger 101
• Curriculum for Grades 3-12
• Activities designed to educate students on the issue of
hunger
• Lessons in line with Oklahoma Pass Skills and Common
Core Standards
• Can function as stand-alone lessons
• Visual aids and worksheets provided
• Guest speakers available
• Field trip/tours of Regional Food Bank available
• Student volunteer activities available
